I approach therapy through the lens of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, believing that so much of who and how we are is shaped through our lived experiences. Sometimes these experiences leave us having learned ways of thinking, behaving, and believing that are not so helpful down the road. I believe that we are each the expert of our own experiences and through the processing, exploration, and understanding of our thoughts, feelings, and underlying beliefs, along with a commitment to self-compassion, we can best be prepared to pursue our best lives. It takes courage to seek out help and insight into the changes needed for a healthier and more fulfilling life. I am here to support and empower you throughout the endeavor. It is extremely important to me that everyone I work with feels they are safe, comfortable, and hopeful that our work together will bring positive changes in their lives.

I like to think of myself as a very open minded person and I really enjoy learning and trying new things, especially anything to do with nature and being outdoors, like vegetable gardening, hanging out with my 2 cats, or training my rough collie puppy (he’s learning at his own pace). Music has always been an important outlet to me whether it be listening to a new band or laying down a bass line to something I wrote myself.

I also see clients by video, so you can work with me from anywhere in the state. Read more about our online therapy throughout Virginia.

Forms of CBT that we use

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an umbrella term that essentially means that we help people feel better and function more effectively in a way that sticks by helping them think and act more effectively. But more effective treatments for specific problems have been developed that fall under that umbrella, such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, Exposure Therapy for phobias and driving phobia, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD and trauma, Panic Control Treatment (PCT) for panic disorder and panic attacks, CBT-I for insomnia, Positive Affect Treatment (PAT) for depression, and the Unified Protocol for anxiety and emotional disorders.

Insurance Accepted

We accept Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, including Anthem HealthKeepers, Anthem FEP, and Anthem Federal plans. We also accept most out-of-state Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, including Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, CareFirst, Independence Blue Cross, Florida Blue, and BCBS FEP. In addition, we accept Aetna, Tricare East, and UnitedHealthcare StudentResources. If you have a plan we do not accept, we will file out-of-network claims for you.

We DO NOT accept Medicaid (including HealthKeepers Plus, Aetna Better Health) or Medicare plans.
