Fees & Insurance | Charlottesville, VA
What insurance plans do you accept?
All of our providers accept Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, including Anthem Healthkeepers, and most out-of-state plans.
Most of our providers (with the exception of Dr. Young) accept Aetna plans.
Some of our providers accept UnitedHealthcare StudentResources.
All of our providers are certified non-network providers with Tricare East. With some Tricare East plans, including Tricare Prime, you might need to obtain an authorization in order for us to receive payments from Tricare. You also might be responsible for a deductible and a cost share. Because our providers are non-network providers, copays tend to be slightly higher than with in-network providers. I recommend calling Tricare to find out more about your plan benefits.
If you have an in-network insurer, you will normally only be charged a copay or co-insurance unless you have a deductible. We recommend calling your insurer before coming in to find out your copay and deductible, if any.
This fee covers a full 60 minutes, as it includes additional time for preparation and note-taking. Our therapists spend a considerable amount of time above and beyond this pursuing continuing education, attending professional conferences and trainings, and researching clients’ conditions and how to better treat them.
Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid?
Our therapists do not accept Medicare plans, Medicare supplemental plans, or Medicaid plans. Anthem Healthkeepers Plus and Aetna Better Health are Medicaid plans, so we cannot accept them.
What if I have an insurer that is not accepted by my therapist?
If our therapists are not considered in-network with your insurance company, we recommend checking your out-of-network benefits to find out how much of our fee might be covered. Companies such as United and Cigna often have very good out-of-network benefits so we highly recommend checking. We do not accept Medicare (or Medicare supplemental plans) or Medicaid, and they will not reimburse you for any portion of the fee. Anthem Healthkeepers Plus and Aetna Better Health are Medicaid plans, so we cannot accept them.
Is teletherapy or online therapy covered by insurance?
Teletherapy is usually covered by insurance. You should call your insurance company to find out whether teletherapy is covered by your plan. If they ask for a “Place of Service” code, that code is “10.” We offer online CBT Therapy throughout Virginia.
How much do you charge if I don’t have insurance?
The out-of-pocket fee for Dr. Rob Young is $175 for a 53-minute session. Everyone else’s fee is $150. We will file out-of-network claims for you.
What if I have a different Blue Cross Blue Shield Plan?
Blue Cross Blue Shield isn’t a single company. It’s a federation of independent, regionally operated health plans that share the Blue Cross and Blue Shield names, like Anthem, Empire, CareFirst, Independence, and Florida Blue. Because we’re in-network with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in Virginia, we can usually also see members of other Blue plans through a national program called BlueCard, which routes your claim from us to your home plan. Coverage still depends on your specific plan. So call the number on the back of your insurance card before your first session to verify coverage (see below). We accept the BCBS Federal Employee Program – members carry an “R” prefix instead of the three-character alpha prefix and are processed through the local plan’s FEP unit, not BlueCard. But you don’t need to know that, because we will process your claims for you.
Call your insurer to verify benefits before coming to see us.
When you call your insurer to verify that we are in your plan, and how much you will have to pay, they might ask for the following. Give them this information, regardless of the provider you are seeing.
